Barack Obama's speech was nothing short of the best political speech I have ever heard. Congrats, Iowa Dems, as together we picked a real winner. A true fighting progressive, who delivered, big time, in a night for the history books. Really, nothing short of perfect. "A new politics for a new time."

Andrew Sullivan nails it, IMHO, in this post:
"I guess some of the McCain team believe that announcing his veep choice tonight as a way to step on Obama's acceptance speech is brilliant politics. I'm not sure that denying the first black candidate a clear shot at making his case on the anniversary of the March on Washington is such a great idea. It just looks cheap and a little desperate; and it robs the next morning of any real drama. But it wouldn't surprise me, given the immature mood-swings of the McCain camp so far. McCain is not acting like a statesman these days - more like a Yaffer of old.
Obama's speech will be the story tonight regardless. Smarter not to step on it. Unless McCain's polling is showing a bigger Obama bump than we are currently aware of." Permalink.

What a phenom week for the Dems -- unity, great speeches by Michelle and both the Clintons, a powerful and moving address by Veep Joe Biden, and surprise best-of-their-life performances by Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer and John Kerry. Incredible! What a great, great week!
And the Bush-McCain Republicans? How are they doing? Bad, very bad, so terribly bad that even the weather is working against them. No, seriously, ask even Karl Rove:
"The Republicans can't seem to get a break when it comes to August and when it comes to the weather," said Rove, a FOX News analyst. "I know this is being thought a lot about in Washington and at the White House and discussed and I suspect they will monitor it carefully and figure out what to do."
Apparently, Rove is referring to Hurricane Katrina (which sure was tough on Bush-McCain Republicans) and Hurricane Gustav, which may be coming soon. Thanks, Talking Points Memo, for catching this.

President Bill Clinton delivers a very gracious and a very generous speech. Mark Halperin of TIME:
"Offers glowing, detailed praise for Obama, mentioning him by name 15 times in his prepared remarks.
Says of 1992: 'Together, we prevailed in a campaign in which the Republicans said I was too young and too inexperienced to be commander in chief. Sound familiar?'"
Our great party -- the Democratic Party -- is united. U-N-I-T-E-D!

Upon the motion of Hillary Clinton, the Demo Convo nominates Barack Obama for President of the United States, by acclamation. What a great and historic moment!
And, once more, the Bush-McCain Republicans made a huge mistake, carried over several days, claiming there is "disunity" among Dems. Our party has never been more united!

OMG! OMG! Lots of unconfirmed reports streaming in that Olympic hero and most-popular-Iowan-ever Shawn Johnson will lead the Pledge of Allegiance on Thursday night at the DNC. Just when you thought Iowa Dems couldn't get more popular or have more going for them this election season -- SHAWN JOHNSON to appear and lead the Pledge at the Demo Convo!!!
